@Jazz: indeed... i was... aeh, und danke fuer die blumen... @Jason Kravitz: thanks jason. - actually there isn`t much to learn about my approach, i guess, but i will tell anyway: first off i scouted the gathering place beforehand (the same park as last year) looking for a plain background in the shades and because this year there was no direct sun at all (due to a completely overcast sky) i had some more choices - of which i picked this graffiti free piece of yellow wall. next was finding subjects in the crowd by simply talking to them, telling them what i wanted to do and finally asking if they were willing to come with me over to the wall mentioned above. - and most of them came with me... for lighting there isn't much to say because there was only plain diffuse available light. everything that might look like special lighting is post processing. (mainly darkening the background and sometimes dodging the faces). my gear was the same as last year a (1.6x-crop-factor) dslr plus a 17-50 / f2.8 : used mostly at the subjects' eye level (or slightly above) at the lowest end of the focal lengths and always wide open. this way you emphasize the face both size-wise and focus-wise.
